The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Thirteen
The Fourth Unit
After a good rest at half past three, they all got to their feet. Loc could see the first heads as the sun started going down and low on the horizon with the first stars faintly coming out.
She looked at Elijah. He nodded and soon she was on his back and in the air and she looked down. She counted the hydras on the first row and found ten and only nine rows.
Ninety. Good. We can win this.
“How many?”
“Ninety.”
“Significantly less.”
“Getting dark. Now get down.”
So they were back on the ground.
“Same plan, but we need to get as much fire lit on the battlefield as we can after the battle. That way we will be able to see better.”
“Right.”
So all the eagles set off and all of them were in the sky. The eagles loaded their bows and fired the arrows at the eyes of the first row, then the second row and the third row.
Yet the fourth row looked up and let out a blast of fire. She stopped it and Elijah fired the arrow. Then she parted the fire. Then they returned to firing at the eyes. Then the fifth row let out a blast of fire. They all fired the arrows as she parted the fire. Then they landed in the eyes. Then the sixth row did the same and fired the arrows faster this time.
Then they were able to flick out the arrow and fire at the eyes. Then the seventh row fired as many fireballs at them. She was able to fire at each one of them as the eagles were able to fire at the eyes. That was when the eighth fired fireballs and she fired at them. She did this as fast as she could as the eagles fired at the eyes. Then they were able to see the last.
She saw the fireballs coming and she fired at them. Yet this was quickly followed by a wave of fire. She parted the fire as the eagles fired the arrows and were able to hit each and every eye.
She took a glance at the sun. It was touching the horizon.
We need to get a move on.
She slipped off and dropped to the ground as fast and silently as she could. She looked at them and nodded.
At this they all charged at the first row as fast and silently as they could. They did all they could to keep their breath as silently as they could. Some had to calm their own fear as they did. They all knew that they could take advantage of the fire as they arrived at the feet of the first row.
Four dived in and then on to the side and slit the front ankles. Then the inner two dived up and slit the stomachs before they dropped. They silently dived on. Then they repeated the action. Then they dived on and did the same.
That was when they saw amber above them. Some quickly dived back as fast as they could. Yet the majority dived out of the way just in time. Yet a few were hit. Their screams gave them away and they were quickly eaten.
Loc then pushed the fire out and at the side of the battlefield. Then she looked at the rest. She gave them the get-your-head-back-in-the-game look. They all nodded as they dived onwards and slit the ankles as they dived up and slit the stomachs. Yet some were in groups of three this time.
They soon saw the fire, which stopped them for a moment and kept their mouths shut. Loc pushed the fire out to the side. Then they dived on and sliced the ankles then dived up and slit the stomach. Then they turned to the sixth row. Then they saw the amber. Loc divided the fire and sent it to the sides. They dived on and sliced the ankles. Then the ones in the centre and slit the stomachs.
That was when the next row let out several fireballs. They all had to silently side to side. Loc hit each and every one of them. Soon the eagles fired at the heads. Causing them to raise their heads and fired fireballs at them as the men dived on and slit the ankles before the inner ones slit the stomachs. Then they saw the next set of fireballs. The eagles fired the arrows the heads raised. Then the men were able to dive on and slit the ankles and slit the stomachs.
Then they came to the last. The eagles struck the heads before the men dived on. Then they quickly slit the ankles and then the stomach. All faster than they had ever before.
After this, the sun fell and night sank in. They spent the rest of the time setting up fires so that they were able to see when the last unit of hydras would strike…
