Strena Acceptance Part Two
A Secret That Must Be Kept
Strena woke from a nightmare the first thing her eyes dropped to was the cuff before putting her diary away. She then looked up to Chashathrophogh, hoping that he did not read it. She knew that the moment that he found out what she was she would be dead. She looked to the side to her Uncle Zaryb. She hoped that he would keep quiet yet, as she did not know Wolfox, she could not be quite certain he would.
They soon woke up and Cerpheres gave her a delicious stew. In fact she had never tasted a stew so good. They all ate slowly before they marched on. As they did, Strena walked closer to Zaryb than the rest. Yet Cerpheres walked up to her and put an arm around her, making her jump slightly.
“Are you alright little beauty?”
“Urm…yeah. Why?”
“It’s just you seem to have a lot on your plate. Wanna share?” He purred.
“No.”
“Come on! Are you really going to say that in that way?”
Yes.
“You need to look stronger than that!”
“And if I did want to share, you’ll be the last person I would go for!”
There! Happy?
He smiled, making her feel more on edge.
“Ahh! So there is a bark in that timid vessel! Good. Wonder if there's a bite in there too!”
Her eyes narrowed.
“How about you take out a sword and find out?”
He chuckled.
“Good, I like that!”
“Cerpheres!”
“Yeeees?”
“Get away from her this instant!”
“Fine!”
He winked at her as he moved away.
“Speaking of which, Arielsa, was it?”
“Strena.”
“Strena, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Be honest.”
“It’s nothing.” She said with gritted teeth.
He looked at her with annoyance. He took out a blade and picked her up at the throat then pointed it at her throat.
“Don’t lie to me girl. Tell me what's wrong or you’re dead.”
But you’re going to kill me anyway. Especially once you find out.
“I can’t. Please, leave me alone. I just want some time to think. So please, put me down.”
He did.
She coughed and coughed. She breathed in and out, long and deep. She felt herself shaking again. She could do nothing but feel her heart in her ears.
“So what do you want to think about?”
Her eyes looked aside to him.
“What…Uncle Zaryb said… I need time to process that and what happened. I mean, how did Dark Lady Grasharlo come back? And why did she come out of me?”
Cerpheres placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Tell me, how do you graduate becoming a Dark Lord or, in your case, Lady?”
“You-you kill your teacher!”
He nodded and he looked at her like a cute animal.
“Yes, and do you know how many Dark Lords and Dark Ladies there are out there these days?”
“Hundreds!”
He nodded as she frowned.
“And how many Dark Lords and Dark Ladies were there originally?”
“Thirteen Dark Lords and four Dark Ladies.”
Her frown deepened.
That can’t be right.
“Have you ever wondered how come there are so many if that’s how you become one?”
She nodded.
“They found a way to come back to life!”
“Yes.”
“And because of the graduations demand their deaths by the hands of their apprentices, logically they would be used in the process of resurrection .”
“Wow you’re good!”
“Yes. You educated that girl well Zarry.”
“Yes. Although there are things I have yet to teach her.”
“Like?”
He let out a sigh.
“Things that you are far too young for at the moment.”
He then looked at Bash for a moment with a narrow eye as she nodded.
“So, what is it?”
“What?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
Bash let out a sigh.
“Look. She’ll tell you when she is ready!”
“Alright. But it better not get in the way.”
“I-it won’t! I-I’ll do what I can to not get in the way!”
“Good. You better.” He said as they walked on.
Bash put an arm around the girl.
“It’s alright. He won’t kill you. Whatever the secret is, tell it when you’re ready. I don’t think he’ll be stupid enough to kill you over it. After all-”
“Will he kill you? After the spell is broken. Will be kill you?”
She narrowed her eyes.
“No. I don’t think so. I don’t think he is the way he was.”
“What does that mean?”
“I can’t see him killing anymore royals born out of wedlock.”
She looked down and nodded.
