The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Eight

 The Final Division Of

The First Army

It was early in the evening when they saw that dust cloud on the horizon. Loc had barely gained consciousness and the men had barely had a good rest. Yet they all got to their feet as they walked to their eagle, who also had barely had a good rest. They all collected their bows and arrows. Some yawned as they did this, as without a good nap, their minds could not wake up the way that they needed to be. Despite this, they all soldiered on.

Then they took to the air.

Loc had to press her hand against Peble’s edge to wake herself up. The rest saw this then they pressed the arrows to their collar bone, making sure it was deep enough to wake them up but too shallow to cause any real damage. Then they took out their torches.

They all took a deep breath and sharpened their minds as they reached the first row. Loc counted that there were one hundred again. She looked around to see that there were five men at each side. Which meant that, even though it was slim, they had a chance to win if they were able to take out ten at a time.

So they all lit their eagle’s arrows and hit the first row. She increased the fire and then moved onto the next row and the row after that. She quickly increased the fire in the brain. Yet she could feel that her power had not yet quite recovered but she knew that she had to be able to continue until that last row.

They soon were on the fourth row and then the fifth and sixth and seventh. She could feel the strain building and building yet she knew that she had to continue. Soon they were able to take out the last three. By that point she could feel the strain building further.

They were all about to leave when she just about realized something. Something that her gut told her that it was too late for the revelation.

That was far too easy.

That was when she saw shadows all around them. She looked around at both ends and she saw fifty at each end in row pounce on the riderless eagles. Some were able to pluck them out of the air as they landed. Then they all looked at the ten with riders on.

Yet as they went to pounce they fired the arrows and hit the head as the riderless eagles hit them in the back of their heads. Loc saw this and, after the front ten’s heads were set alight, she pushed the fire on and onto the arrows. Which she was only just able to set the heads alight. This took out fifty. Yet the ones at the far back then pounced and she noticed that the riderless eagles had formed a row and so were the wyrms.

“Fly up higher!” She called.

They did but the slower ones were soon down their throats. Yet as she looked up, she saw that only ten had the sense to fire their arrows at the spot that their heads were going to be. Then she pushed out a ball of fire at the arrows and then, taking all her strength to push the fire in and into their heads.

This left twenty and she could feel her tiredness getting to her. Yet she had to press on as the eagles fired at their heads. She then used the fire already there to push the fire to the inlit arrows. Then used her fire power to increase all the fire.

She let out a sigh. Yet she felt the breath behind her.

Come on!

They all flew back to see a row just about to eat them! They sluggishly fired at the lit arrows which hit the eyes of five and the others at the top of their skulls. Yet she had to act quickly to push the fire on and into their brains. Then they roared as they hit some of the other wyrms she could see that her eyelids were dropping.

She looked to the side to see that both the men and eagles eyelids were also dropping.

Then all of them looked on and groaned as another row was coming at them. They all fired their arrows at them and she pushed the fire into their heads. She could feel her body shaking and the strain inside was becoming too much to bair. Yet she had to push on the moment that she saw another row and they repeated the same action. Soon her eyelids stopped as she saw another row.

How many are there? She thought as they fired an arrow, none of them cared where. She trembled as she used her fire power to expand the fire.

“That it?” She asked as she could feel her whole body crying out for sleep.

Yet upon seeing none, they all flew on and saw nothing where they looked. She looked up at the night sky and soon could feel the food getting to her. After seeing that there were none left, they all flew back. The moment that all of them saw the doors of their temporary bedrooms they lazily smiled.

“Was that the last of the army?”

“Soukd be. His Majesty did say that that was all he counted.”

“Good!”

“Oh!”

“What Kira?”

“We have to more armies like that!”

“Oh!”

“No! They ought to be worse!”

“What!”

“Oh come on!”

“Think we need to stop thinking about that and get a good night’s sleep!”

“But what if they come during the night?”

“Nah. They won’t arrive until day after tomorrow.”

“Good!”

Soon they all hit the bed and we're soon off.
