Doormaze Drage The Green Witch Part Three
The Emerald Mansion
It took the entire morning to get to the Emerald Mansion. It was as high as three mustard trees and as wide as two football fields. All of it was made of emerald. The centre had roof tiles and, at the corners, windows and bricks stuck out like towers had domed roofs. The double doors at the front had a pattern of a Venus fly trap and mistletoe. Weaving in and out of each other like snakes. At both ends were three rows of windows which were also made of emerald.
They walked up to it. In front of them was a set of door handles.
“Don’t touch those dear. The way is something else!”
Doormaze jumped like a cat as she looked at the plants. She looked close at the heads of the mistletoe and stroked the vines.
“Not there!”
She looked at the heads of the mistletoe.
“Not there.”
Then she looked at the Venus fly trap heads and spotted that there were hinges at the root of each head. So she pulled at them. Then the doors opened. Inside there was one main corridor and on both sides there were a dozen smaller corridors. All emerald.
“Now what?”
Burn looked up.
“Well, we could start with that!” She spoke as she pointed upward.
The three girls looked up. There they saw an olive green envelope dangling from the ceiling. Coalmine spread her wings and flew up to it. She soon returned with it and Doormaze opened it.
To the dozen isle,
To December’s original place,
Go to the tower
With numbers for a race.
“Oh goodie! A riddle!”
“Yeah and an easy on of that!”
“Explain!” Both Coalmine and Burn snapped.
“‘To the dozen isle’, the twelfth corridor.”
“‘To December’s original place’. Well decem is the number ten in Latin. So that must mean that December’s original place was the tenth month.”
“And ‘go to the tower with numbers for a race’ must mean the clock tower!”
So they all walked to the twelfth corridor.
“Well, do we go left or right?”
“Left.”
“Why?”
“It’s got evil associations and witches were known to be evil.”
“Oh.”
So they walked to the left and walked up the stairs to the tenth to the tenth floor. Then she saw several doors. The group checked each door until Burn spotted the one that she was looking for. Then they walked up the one that said Clock Tower. They were about to walk up the stairs when Doormaze felt her body seize up. Almost like it had been turned to stone. She tried to move but she could not. She tried to lift her foot, but it just would not budge! She tried to speak but even that seemed useless.
“Doormaze?” Coalmine asked, concerned.
She tried to look at her but not even her eyes moved!
She felt her heart racing as she felt claustrophobia sink in like the fangs of a snake. She was screaming inside but she could not let out a single sound. She could feel her head pounding as she felt like her body was no longer her’s.
“That’s because it’s not! It’s mine to do with whatever I want! After all, all who are under my curse are.”
What?
She felt ice be driven into her heart as she heard the cackling in her head.
“Did you really think that you’re the only ones that have tried to come here and kill me, eh, dear?”
Let me go! Let me go. Just let me go! Please!
“What? So that you can kill me? I don’t think so!” She sang in her head.
“No! I have you exactly where I want you and I’ll soon have your friends too.”
No!
She felt tears falling from her eyes.
“Doormaze? What’s wrong? Are you alright?”
She felt her powerlessness sink deeply into her core.
“No. She’s not.” Burn said as she looked into her eyes. “Look at the colour of her eyes. They’re the colour of when she’s upset and angry.”
She then reached out her hand and tried to pull it, but it would not move!
“She can’t move.”
Her eyes widened.
“What!”
“It must be the witch.”
“Then what do we do?”
“We have to go on.”
“Alone?”
“Then you go on. I will stay.”
“But-”
Then something hit Coalmine. She looked to the side to see a black panther. It roared as it looked at Doormaze with hunger in it’s eyes. Burn dived under the panther and it went to claw down at her but she punched the stomach. This did nothing. So she forced all her power on the stomach and willed it to break apart. She noticed that it did nothing. So she tried harder and harder again and again and again. Then the panther moaned as she went to strike her and took out a line of flesh out of her thigh. At that moment the stomach split. She rolled out of the way. Then the panther raced towards Coalmine and jumped. Fire flew at the oanterband eclipsed it.
When it landed it galloped at Coalmine again as flames ate away at it. It jumped again. She dived out of the way. But it clawed at her wings. She let out a grunt as she pulled out a knife. Sbe then drove it under the chin and into the brain. The panther clawed forward as she drove the dagger further and further up. Soon the panther curled over.
Coalmine picked Doormaze up.
“Come on!”
Soon they walked up the stairs.
