 The Phone Call

Once they were even better they walked on and on. Morana knew that if they were going to get there in time, they were going to have to get a move on and keep their health in check. She looked at Scar.

It too. But enough to keep it going.

She looked up ahead. She kept walking and walking at a good pace. She kept her hand firmly on her arm. She knew that she had delayed too long and not a moment longer. So she made sure to put as much distance between where they were and where she was going as possible. She could feel her legs aching but she did not have the time to address it. She did not want to give either of them a rest either. 

That was when she heard a howl of a large wolf. By the pitch of the howel it was about the size of a house! Then she felt the breath on the back of her neck. She looked back to see a wolf the size of her body!

She threw Scar over and reached into her pocket. Then it went to bite her. She dived to the left. She went to grab the gun again but she saw the claw to her left. She dived back. Then she was able to pull out the gun. Yet she saw the jaws about to reach her. She was about to shoot only to see the jaw coming to the right, she had to dive to the left only to be hit by the other claw. She hit the ground and she dived at the gun and raised it again. Only to be hit by the claw again.

The gun flew out of her hand as she was hit again. This landed in front of Scar. She picked it up. She looked at Morana, then at the giant wolf. Then she thought of Beatrice and Britannia. She remembered the pain of losing her mother. Even though she hated this woman declaring to be her biological mother. She just could not bring herself to bring them that exact same pain. She may bring an end to her pain, but how could she bring herself to see them if she started down this path?

So she looked at the wolf and fired. The bullet hit the back of the wolf’s skull. It let out a whine and looked at her. It galloped to her. She aimed at the aria between the eyes and fired. It still came and she hit the forehead again. It hit.

Then she dropped the gun. Then Morana picked up the gun. She looked down at her.

“Didn’t know that you could use a gun.”

“I don’t. Only once did I use it when I was solving my mum’s murder. Yet I hardly missed. Miss Kira was able to notice this.”

She frowned and nodded.

“And you didn’t kill me because?”

She was about to answer until both of them heard the song crazy coming from Morana’s pocket. She pulled her phone out and flipped it open.

“What is it?”

“It’s Britannia’s number.”

She frowned.

“Hello our dear little Morana. Is our dear little Mythos Puros there?”

“Yes.”

“Put on the setting that will allow us to speak to the both of you.”

She put it on loudspeaker.

“Speak.”

“Hello my dear little Mythos Puros!”

“‘Scar’!”

“‘My dear little Scar’ then.”

“Tell us what’s taking you so ever long?”

“The terrible weather.”

“Oh, well I saw that there was a terrible storm, were you in that? Were you?”

“Yes.”

“Well, I just wanted to give you the time to speak to the rest of your family!”

“Mum?”

“Britannia?”

“Mum, was that Scar?”

“Yes. Are you alright?”

“Yes. You?”

“Yes.”

“Mum, help us. We don’t know what they’re doing but they have taken our blood and hair.”

“And don’t come here Scar-”

Brit. Shut up. I don’t want to know. But have you any of your homework?”

“Yes. Why?”

“Do it. Believe me, when I was having a terrible case, that left me feeling emotional, I did my homework that helped me get my mind off it.”

“Right.”

That was when Morana frowned as she looked at her.

“Well, that’s nice and all, however, there’s one thing I think that you have to keep your mind on, that is; if you do not get here in four days time we will start killing.”

Then the phone cut off. The two looked at each other.

“Why did you lie?”

“Because I get the monster, but they get the mother.”

She nodded.
