Scar A Lonely Escort Part Five

 The Illness Of Both

Mother And Daughter

Scar was hardly being dragged by Morana, too exhausted and hungry to protest. She could barely stay awake. Then, she collapsed. She felt her nose had become all bunged up and she was cold. Morana sqe this and smiled as she picked her up before she sneezed. She noticed that she too had a bunged up nose and when she placed a hand on her forehead she noticed that she had a temperature. Yet she forced herself on and on and on. She could feel sweat all over her. She noticed that Scar too had developed a coat of sweat. She noticed that she looked as if she was handling away from death as she started to shake. Yet she ignored this as all she could think about was Beatrice and Britannia.

Hold on, what if it died before we got there? What if they kill them all for that?

This struck her with fear as she stopped for a moment and looked at her.

Fine! I’ll feed it!

She walked on and on. She could hear anger build within her.

This is all it’s fault! All of it, none of this would have ever happened!

Yet, if it never existed then my kids would never have been born in the first place!

She remembered how both Beatrice and Britannia looked at her.

“Mum, we were able to make a friend today.”

“Yeah! She looks just like us except she’s got scarlet eyes.”

Then her mind flashed to another time when she had returned home.

“Our friend got shot! Actually shot!”

“Yeah! She told us that one of her cases went sideways. But I don’t believe her.”

Then another time.

“Oh mum, it’s really bad. Our friend got stabbed and almost bled to death!”

“Yeah. Why do all of these bad things keep happening to her? It’s not fair!”

“Oh mum, we really need to do something to help her.”

Then when they went missing the first time she finally saw that friend they were always going on and worrying about. Only to see that it was none other than the Mythos Puros! It enraged her.

“Oh! Britannia, Beatrice!” She remembered shouting as all she could do was be flooded with relief. “Are you alright?”

“Yeah!”

“Scar took really good care of us!”

That was when she looked at her, even though she could only see glimpses of her face, she knew that it was her. She could feel the murderous rage within her.

What is that thing doing here? She thought. She would have killed her right there and then if there were not people watching. So she had to pretend to remain calm and oblivious.

“She did, did she?”

“Yeah!”

“She didn’t let us get hurt and everything!”

“Really?” She spoke, hardly believing one word.

“Really mum.”

“Mum, she even helped us keep calm.”

That’s hard to believe.

“She did?”

That was when her husband saw her shaking and knew something was up.

“What’s wrong? Do you know her?”

“She-”

At this she could feel her heart in her ear as all she could do was watch as this thing would tear her family apart.

Go on! Take it! Take all that I have. I dare you!

“She was a client of mine.” She lied.

“Really? I never knew.”

“It was too minor for you. She didn’t want to inconvenience you with something so small. Now I have to go.”

This was the time that she saw an old ruen, which brought her back to the present. She looked up as she sniffed and swayed. She walked to it and dropped the girl beside the door and lit a fire. Both she and the girl coughed and coughed before spitting out green mucus. She curled up.

She looked at her as she remembered that moment. She remembered how choked she was as she spoke those words. Yet she knew that even after covering for her she would have to put her in her place. She did not want her children having anything to do with her. So she did. Then even after that her girls still kept on talking about her.

“Mum, you know that Scar’s all alone.”

“And?”

What are you getting at?

“Can you adopt her?”

“No.”

“Come on! She’s all alone”

“She needs a mum and dad that can protect her and love her. So can you!”

“I’m sure she’ll love you too!”

“No. She’s dangerous. So stay away from her!” She snapped, sharply.

She curled her lip as she looked at her again. She wasn’t even twelve, so what was she even doing in the same class as her Beatrice and Britannia?

She took out some cough medicine. She then took out a spoon and took it. She got more firewood to reignite the fire. She then poured some for her and stuffed it in her mouth.

“Swallow.”

She did. She then looked up as night fell.

“When was I born?” She asked.

“April the fourth.”

She looked aside to the ground.

“You’re thirteen, not twelve. Why are you even in that class?”

“Never knew. Thought I was younger.”

She nodded as she took out more soup and couscous.

“Why? Didn’t those witches say?”

She shook her head.

“Told me you were dead.”

At this the girl started to cry.

“Why didn’t you try to get me back?”

“Never wanted you.”

“You said.”

“What did they say to you?”

“How to speak, that I was the Mythos Puros, you were dead. Nothing more.”

She nodded as she drank her soup and ate her couscous. She then made another and grabbed her hair and forced it all down her and she gulped it all down without protest.

“You know, Beatrice and Britannia-”

No. Don’t get it’s hopes up.

“Wha’?”

“Never mind.” She said as she took out an apple and ate it and gave her another one.

Then they both fell asleep soon after. They had to stay there another day before they were well enough again to move on.

At least now I know when I was born. Scar thought as she walked on.
