The Fox Princess

There was once a King that rode with his brother and daughter of the age of three on her first trip outside of the kingdom. They were deep in the forest between the borders. There, her eyes greeted the wildlife. They traveled alone for he wanted to spend time with his daughter and brother. Mainly because it had shocked him to discover he had recently neglected both of them as he attended to his duties as a king and he wanted to make up for that. He wanted to spend time with both of them and not have to worry about being king.

Then out of the blue a group of bandits jumped out and killed his horse. Quickly he gave his daughter over to her uncle as he drew his sword, just as he felt one in his chest. He looked down to see that the blade was deep in his chest. The moment that he looked up, he knew that he had been betrayed. He fell and the king's brother drew the sword out as the girl cried and cried. He looked down to see the only witnesses of his crime was a group of foxes. He then put the girl down and gave her over to them.

"Should we not kill her now?"

"No, I shall leave her to the foxes." He replied. "I am the king now."

Then he turned to the bandits and turned his sword to them before any of them could react they all fell down dead. He took his brothers' body back and told all of the sad news.

Then the mother fox came up to the three year old. She looked at the crying child and licked the tears from her cheeks and then took her in her mouth and into her cave. There she cleaned the girl properly and adopted her as her own. As she grew her hair became long and as wild as she was. Her features became sharp and clear as her beauty which, increased year by year until she became an adult.

Then, one day she saw a strange creature while she was hunting. A creature that was shaped like her that she knew was not like her. She knew that this was a man but she did not quite know how. Yet as she looked at him on his two legs she felt her curiosity peaque. Her eyes became wide with it.

"Who are you and why do you not have clothes on woman?" He shouted.

She frowned at him and growled. His lip curled.

"What answer is that! Were you raised by beasts?" He snapped as her adopted mother came up beside her.

That was when she suddenly recognised this man. She went onto remembering who this man was, she pounced at him and dug her teeth into his throat and bit in. Yet as he looked down he suddenly recognised the girl as the princess that he left to the foxes all those years ago.

In that moment another greeted them. She looked up at him and he too recognised her and took his cape off and covered her with it. He then took her back to her home kingdom teaching her how to talk and made her a dress out of his cape to ensure that she would be presentable. He then gave her over to her mother, the Queen.

Soon she told her all that had happened to her. After weeping in each other's arms the fox princess made her fox brothers and sisters princesses and her adopted mother a princess too. They soon caught up and soon her fox mother died causing the Fox Princess to mourn over her. She soon gave her a royal funeral and after ten years her birth boher followed.
