The Sacrifice and The Promise

There were two best friends who loved each other like they were close knit brothers. Then one day when they were rowing their boat in their local beech and then a gust of wind forced them into the middle of the ocean! They tried to resist the winds but before they knew it they were far away from land and any trace of it. They did not know where they were nor could they remember where the land even was!
They looked up and spotted birds fly near but they then suddenly flew away as if the aria was forbidden. They then looked down and to their horror they spotted a shark coming closer and closer but at a certain spot, just like the birds it swam away like it was frightened off by something. It was all too clear that no living thing was coming anywhere near them!
This posed a problem for the two as the day dragged on and their attempts to get to land caused them to become more and more hungry. When it became evident that their attempts were futile they abandoned them and started to play games to relieve their minds in their increasingly growing hunger. This helped pass the time and when night came they slept hugging each other to keep warm so that they would not succumb to hypothermia.
This went on for days and days and their stomachs became thinner and thinner, until one of them knew that they would have to eat or they would die. This man, Steve, looked at his friend that he saw as a brother. His heart sank as he quickly realized that only one of them wa going to be able to survive. He took out his knife whipping a tear from his eye.
"Steve what're you doing?" his friend, Bob asked starting to feel uncomfortable and afraid.
"I am going to kill myself so that you can eat and live." Steve replied.
"No! We can both live we are going to live!" he cried as he tried to take the knife from his friend.
"I am sorry there is no other way." Steve said as he plunged the knife into his heart.
"I promise that I will return this, if I make it out alive, I promise that I will serve your family until the day I die." Bob promised as his friend died in his arms. Bob mourned Steve for hours until his stomachs' hunger got to him and even as he ate his dead friend he was still crying.
Several weeks later he was rescued and brought to his family and told everyone what had happened and, just like he promised, he served Steves' family until the day he died and he was berried next to his friend Steve.
