Bounty Hunter Bash Unlocked Part Five

 Across Deathsea: Mermaids

The moment that Bash woke, she scratched for Gajellidor’s presence. She could feel that he was on the ship. Yet she could not feel where precisely he was. So, she got out of bed, took a quick wash and slipped out. She first ran to the stairs and down to the lowest level. She saw all the workers, sleeping in their cloth hammocks. Yet some were sleeping on the ground in makeshift beds.

She raced all over and could see or sense nothing. So she ran to the next floor and could see or sense nothing. Not even in the single room with one wooden bed on top of one another. So she moved up to the next and saw that the rooms were bigger, it had families in. Yet she could still sense him nearby but she could find nothing.

Then she stopped in front of a mirror and took this time to take a breather. Yet she could feel her stomach churning with hunger as she could feel the presence of Gajellidor the strongest here but, at the same time it was still weak. So she looked to the side to her own reflection to see that her face was red and flaky with sunburn. Yet with her naturally pale face made her look almost ill. She let out a deep breath before she decided what to do.

Eat. Eat, then continue.

So despite wanting to investigate further, she ran to the cafeteria.

“Where have you been?” Cerpheres purred.

“Looking for Gajellidor.”

“On your own?” He purred, putting an arm around her.

She looked down and he pulled her to the rest of the group.

“Bash tried to find Gajellidor all on her own this morning!”

“What!?”

“Is that true?”

“Yes.” She panted.

“My dear niece, I thought that you’d have better sense than that!”

“But-”

He let out a huff.

“How many times have we been going up against them together?”

“Urm…”

“And lost?”

She opened her mouth and closed it again. She looked to the side.

“And you wanted to go up against them both, alone?”

“I only wanted to find them so that we knew where they were!”

“No. You wanted to be the one to take them down. Now stop playing the hero, you’re a bounty hunter!”

Bash looked to the side, knowing that he was right.

“You would have done it too?” She deduced.

“When I was your age, I have learnt better than that.”

“Which was the one that was too big to chew?”

“Berrurogh Coroghboa. He had way too much experience in dark magic than I thought at the time and I barely got out alive.”

“Hmmm…”

“Can’t he’s dead.”

“How?”

“Illness.”

“Oh.”

Soon she was munching on bacon and toast. After they were on the deck training. Until Strena stopped and looked at the horizon. She ran to the railings to see ripples in the water ahead.

“Strena! Focus!” Chashathrophogh snapped.

Yet she pointed to the spot.

“Mermaids are on their way.”

They looked up and nodded. Quickly Bash and her uncle took their bows and arrows.

“Here's. Purple dragon arrows, they return to their owners.”

She nodded.

“Thank you!”

They were soon back on the deck. They could see that the mermaids were closer now. The next thing they saw was all the other passengers running down to their rooms. The only ones on the deck water them, some female crew members and the Captain.

“What are you doing? Get to your rooms!”

“It’s alright. We’re here to fight!”

The Captain cringed.

“What?”

“Nothing. You two just remind me of my twin daughters!”

“What?” Both Chashathrophogh and Bash asked.

“Twins. They keep doing that. It’s creepy.”

“Sounds like my type of girls!”

“Cerpheres!” They snapped as they fired an arrow at one of the mermaids.

“Fine! But please do keep your eyes on the mermaids.”

“Right!”

“What!”

They returned to the waters and fired as far as they could and as fast as they could. They did this again and again and y. Yet they soon arrived. The next thing that they did was fire at the front row, yet some got passed.

“Bash, go for the ones that I miss!”

She nodded as he fired at one after the other. Then she shot at the ones that slipped through the cracks. They kept it up as fast as they could, barely giving themselves time to think. After all, one missed, could lead to others. So they kept it quick, clear and simple. Soon the first row was all soon taken out. They continued to the second and third row and fourth row. Soon they were no more mermaids to fight!

They let out a deep breath.

“That qas-”

They heard Strena’s scream. They raced to the other railing as she stabbed one mermaid after the other before she hit the ocean. She saw the mermaids racing towards her. They were soon taken out by a rain of arrows before a hand grabbed her ankle. She pulled up and stabbed down. She felt another and another and another and she stabbed down again and again and again as fast as she could.

“Why? Why don’t you-”

“Because your death would hurt them the most!”

“Wouldn’t you-”

“Weelll! Being trapped in the ocean would be boring!”

Then she felt one at both as she stabbed down. She then felt hands around her wrists and she was pulled under. She was one coming at her. She used her magic to blast of boiling water at her. She blocked and then she pushed the boiling water at the one that was holding her. Then fling her blades out, slashing their throats. Then her body crouched and she stabbed the boiled mermaid. She then saw another and another one. She did this again and again and again until they came at her at both ends. She stabbed out and one touched her neck. She stabbed her, then one one touched her ankle and she kicked down.

She started to swim back up as mermaid corpses fell by her. The next thing she knew was the hand on her ankle again. She kicked down as she swam up, only to feel another. She went through the same thing again and again and again. She could feel her lungs begging for air. So she snapped and boiled the all around the mermaids. They scream-hissed as they swam towards her. She slashed one after the other again and again and again.

Soon her lungs were screaming for air So she swam up again only to be blocked by a sea of mermaids in front of her. She boiled the water in front of her as she went back to swimming back up only for things to get darker and darker.

The next thing she felt pressure on her chest. She coughed as her eyes dropped to Zaryb and Chashathrophogh before they hugged her.
