Princess Cari Scattered Arc Part Seven
The Sleeping Sand
Ryo woke. His wounds were healed. He was still in the cave. H looked
beside him, the prophecy pool was now a grim shade of purple-red. He
closed his eyes as his body still hurt and he was still tired so he
slipped back into sleep. He woke up sometime later as the sent of
food entered his nose. So, even-though his mind was still in
dreamland he sat up.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
“Year.” he said as his voiced felt weird like it had not been
used for a while. “How long have I been out?” he asked.
“A couple of weeks. I collected the bounty, although, I could not
move you during the early days thought.” she said
“Why?” he asked.
“Because you broke out into a fever. I thought that you were ill
but something told me that there was something more to it so I
left you here, after all you were in a prophecy pool when you
got those wounds.” she said.
He nodded slightly.
“Right.” he said as he came close to the fire as he looked at the
scars all over hie body.
“I am sorry, I could not heal those.” she said.
“How come?” he asked.
“They were too deep and they were made by a creature created by
magic.” she said. “Now, here.”
She gave him a smaller portion than hers. He gave her a questioning
look.
“Your stomach needs to get back to normal.” she said. “Also,
eat it slowly.”
He put the spoon in her mouth and, even-though the food tasted good,
he had to try his best to eat it slowly, for he knew that if he did
not he would throw up. They spent another few days as he built up he
muscles in that cave. Then, when they knew that they were ready, they
left the cave. His stomach was normal but as they walked over the
sand, Ryo spotted that there was something odd about the bumps over
the surface of the sand.
“Chronicler!” he shouted as he pointed to the sand as it moved.
“Dart! Ryo, stay where you are!”
“Why?”
“It's a desert worm!”
“What?”
“A giant worm that eats those who walk on the sand. And if you move
it will know where you are.”
He looked at the sand and gulped.
“And how long should we stay here?” he asked.
“Until night.” she said.
“Why?”
“They do not like cold sand.” she said.
“How are we?”
“With great self-control.” she said.
His eyes rolled. He flicked out his scythe.
“What are you doing?” she shouted.
“I'm sorry I just can't wait that long.” he said as he started
running that was when a tube if flesh and teeth rose up around him
and had trapped him in darkness before he knew it. He struck down his
scythe. He heard a loud cry as there was a small sliver of light
above him, but he knew that he could not go up there right now. He
flipped back and then stuck above him. He would have fallen down but
the tip caught behind one of the sharp teeth.
He placed his feet on the fleshy aria in the mouth and pulled it out.
The tooth fell and he felt the ground beneath him open up and he fell
along with the tooth and he was greeted my a moist hear that made him
break out in sweat. He flung his scythe next to him. This caused it
to drag as it slowed. He then climbed to the top and gripped the top
of the scythe before the blade.
He looked down and he spotted that it was a long fall so he looked
around him.
Just how big is this thing?
He wondered as he dug his scythe in further to the flesh. He then
pulled the handle. He then spotted that as he did grains of sand fell
in. This gave him an idea. He then pulled at the hole that he had
made and pulled out his scythe. He then hacked this opening with is
scythe. That was when he felt his body being forced down and then for
a moment he felt like he was floating and he saw the sky outside.
Quickly he hacked even more at the hole and soon it was big enough.
Then he felt himself falling an he banged against the sand beneath.
This cased him to hit the ground too.
He reached out his hand and then scooped out as much sand as she
could and threw it down again and again. He then felt his body being
forced against the flesh but that was when the hole that he had made
tore and became bigger and bigger and he was soon out and he saw the
hole that he had made and spotted that size of the creature and was
amazed by how large it was! His hole seemed like it was nothing but a
flesh wound!
I was a fool to think that I could kill this thing!
He thought as he landed on it and rolled off it and that was when he
saw that the sand worm bash itself against the sand again and again
as it let out its deafening cry.
He raised his hands against the wound.
Not that I cant try! He
thought as he willed his magic to make the hole bigger, but he was
conscious to only use as much as was necessary and soon he saw cracks
of blood around the hole and as the worm bashed itself against the
sand this caused the cracks to tare the make the hole bigger and as
he continued this it became bigger and bigger until it became a great
hole and the creature bled to death.
Ryo felt the back of his neck open and he screamed out in pain as he
fainted.
“Ryo, you are one insane child!” the Chronicler said as she
picked him up and looked beside her at the dead worm with shock.
