The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Thirteen

The Fourth Unit After a good rest at half past three, they all got to their feet. Loc could see the first heads as the sun started going down and low on the horizon with the first stars faintly coming out. She looked at Elijah. He nodded and soon she was on his back and in the air and she looked down. She counted the hydras on the first row and found ten and only nine rows. Ninety. Good. We can win this. “How many?” “Ninety.” “Significantly less.” “Getting dark. Now get down.” So they were back on the ground. “Same plan, but we need to get as much fire lit on the battlefield as we can after the battle. That way we will be able to see better.” “Right.” So all the eagles set off and all of them were in the sky. The eagles loaded their bows and fired the arrows at the eyes of the first row, then the second row and the third row.  Yet the fourth row looked up and let out a blast of fire. She stopped it and Elijah fired the arrow. Then she parted the fire. Then they returned to fi...

The Third Unit It had been half an hour after eating their lunch when the first hydra was seen. It had three heads. Yet Loc took to the sky and looked down. She saw thirteen on the first row. She then looked on to see that there were eleven rows. Which made her stomach drop slightly. One hundred and forty three… This one is going to take a lot out of us. Even though it will be hard, as long as we are able to get to those stomachs, it won’t be unbeatable… Which means we need to get those eyes taken out as soon as we can. So she looked down. “I have a plan. First eagles, pair up with a man. All of you, aim for those eyes. Once they are all blinded, the rest of the men, and myself, will slice the stomachs. Meanwhile you stay in the air and keep the heads occupied. Right.” “Right.” So fifty of the men climbed on the backs of the eagles and were all in the air. Loc was on Elijah’s back and she looked down. The eagles and the men archers loaded their bows and fired at each eye. They did...

The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Eleven

The Second Wave It was half none in the morning and Loc, the army of men and the eagles had had a good half an hour break. They woke up and out on the battlefield. They all had decided to camp outside the wall. After all, they all knew that they would have to get to the spot and a wall would take up too much time to get through. They soon saw the first heads and gulped as they all grabbed their weapons. Then they looked out for how many there were. The one looked directly at Loc and then Elijah. She nodded at him then looked back at the hydra. “Get to the air!” She called. He looked at her and nodded. They shot to the air and zoomed to the upper section of the sky and she looked down. Then she counted how many hydras there were and she counted twelve in the front row and she then went on to count the ten rows. Which led her to calculate that there were one hundred and twenty. She looked down and nodded. They shot down and addressed them all. “There are one hundred and twenty. Eagl...

The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Ten

The Next Army Strike  Loc woke up at four in the morning. She then woke everyone else up. Then at quarter past four they ate a quick breakfast. At half past, they all dawned their armour. At quarter to five they were all at the battlefield. Loc and several more let out a deep breath. All of them knew that they were on edge.  She saw the first hydra. It had three heads and then she saw another two. The one on the right had five and the one on the left had four. She looked on as she saw fifteen more. All had heads going from one head to ten. Yet as eighteen more appeared they all started to feel their hearts in their ears. They wanted to go on but they knew that they had to wait as twenty eight more came, then another fourth nine, then twenty four, then fifteen and ending with the last five. One hundred and fifty seven! That’s beatable, but barely… That was when she saw them gallop on and on and on. She too charged on and on. She could see that some surrounding her were af...

More Soldiers  It was late in the morning when Loc woke up. She thought about the ten men and fifty eagles. The battles the two days before. Her body ached and she felt tension in her chest and upper abdomen. She felt cold too. She let out a deep breath as she shakily slipped out of the bed. Then slowly she walked to the chair next to the window. Once she sat down and looked outside to the black patch on the horizon. Now that is one down, yet I know that ten men and eagles just will not beat what’s ahead. Yeah, which means I will need more but I don’t think I want to convince people to commit suicide! No, if they all die then I will have to do all to do this myself.  But why? Why am I doing this? No one likes it when I try to help them! But what if, by some luck, I find a piece of one of the Reality Spheres? What then? That was when Wolf Raven’s words echoed in her head. “Just the opposite, my dear. After all, I did tell you didn’t I? I’m going to make a feast of you. Se...

The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Eight

The Final Division Of  The First Army It was early in the evening when they saw that dust cloud on the horizon. Loc had barely gained consciousness and the men had barely had a good rest. Yet they all got to their feet as they walked to their eagle, who also had barely had a good rest. They all collected their bows and arrows. Some yawned as they did this, as without a good nap, their minds could not wake up the way that they needed to be. Despite this, they all soldiered on.  Then they took to the air. Loc had to press her hand against Peble’s edge to wake herself up. The rest saw this then they pressed the arrows to their collar bone, making sure it was deep enough to wake them up but too shallow to cause any real damage. Then they took out their torches.  They all took a deep breath and sharpened their minds as they reached the first row. Loc counted that there were one hundred again. She looked around to see that there were five men at each side. Which meant tha...

The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Seven

The Third Round It was early in the morning and the sun had not yet risen. All the soldiers, eagles and Loc ate all the food that the king brought to them as fast as they could before they had to prepare for the battle ahead. She breathed in and out.  She remembered the events the afternoon before and knew that that was the best strategy. Yet she knew that if the wyrms would like at the end then they would have to rise higher faster. So, as her eyes rested upon the horizon, while they still had time, they went out and practiced that. Once they were in the air, she saw the dust cloud. They all collected their torches and the eagles got their bows and arrows. As soon as they were on their backs they set off. The moment that the wyrms saw them they all let their fire out of their mouths. She stopped it and pushed it back. That was then the men set the tips of the first arrows and fired. Then the heads pushed out of the fire. They went to the ones nearest to them. Then the arrows...

The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Six

The Second Wyrm Division  It was in the afternoon when they saw the next division on the horizon. Loc looked at the men that were still alive. She looked at the eagles and then back at the ones that were coming and did not like her odds. She looked at the eagles and noticed that more of them, which meant that they would have to do more of the heavy lifting. She bit the bottom lip as she knew that she needed to get all of this done as fast as she could. So she looked at the men and the eagles. Soon an idea came to mind. One that was still a long shot but it was the best one that she had. So she jumped down and looked at them. “Alright, they’re coming.” “What?” “Now!” “But we hardly survived the last time!” “Shut it! All you abled men, get a torch each. Eagles, get your bow anf arrows! Then pick a man, men you get on their backs, Elijah, I will be on you.” “Why?” “No time to explain. But on the battlefield, you will know.” She said as she climbed on his back. Then they were so...

The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Five

A Narrow Victory  Her eyes opened. She heard the muffled cries all around her. Her body was covered in a warm liquid that stuck and smelt of iron, meat and something else. She looked around to see that there were many bodies around her in the dim light. She swam on and on and soon reached a moist and soft wall ahead of her. She pulled out her sword and dug it into the wall. She then dragged the blade down. Soon the acid poured out and into the rest of the body. Yet she had to keep cutting to the other sides and then in the centre. She was soon pushed out of the stomach. She dug her blade into the inner flesh. She sliced down then pushed herself out of the body. She let in a gasp of fresh air but she knew that she could not rest. So she used her fire power and pushed it on to the head. She then put the fire out and let the gravity push her body down and she kept her blade and it dug into the skull. Then she pulled it out and thrust her fire into the hole. She looked up to the ...

The Nine Dragons The Dragon King Part Four

The First strike Loc and the rest woke up early. They all cleaned and sharpened their blades and arrows. The eagles looked at each and every arrow and counted them all. They then went on to check their bows. Once they knew that they were all ready, they all set off to the spot where the first division of the army would be.  They saw the wyrms appearing on the horizon. She spotted how big they were and could not help but think of Surpenti and her body. She noticed just how small she was compared to them.  She could feel fear rise like a wave as they came closer and closer and closer. She could feel herself shaking slightly. She had to let out a deep breath as she noticed that there were some men that were shaking too. One looked at her with nothing but fear in his eyes with sweat surrounding them. That was the only thing that she could see in his eyes. Yet despite this he looked on; however she could not help but notice his eyes dropping to the left. She looked down to see...
